RATHA SAPTHAMI
Blog Six - Jan.25, 2026 - Sunday.
THE TITLE means, Ratha (Chariot), SAPTHAMI (Seventh Day - before Full-moon).
This day comes in late January, or early February of every year of the English Calendar Year.
RATHA SAPTHAMI is considered by Indians as an auspicious day. Holistic. Treated as THE BIRTHDAY OF SUN. Celebrating by one and all alike. Paying respects to the LIGHT GIVER, brightening our lives, ensuring growth coupled with activity, health, and happiness, making life meaningful. For these reasons, Indians offer prayers to the generous giver of PRANA for all forms of life on Planet Earth; and as well ensuring the playing part of OUR PLANETARY SOLAR SYSTEM, solacing the reconning of Day and Night, and the TIME, governing all the forms of LIFE.
It is this recognition by the Indians, of the bygone periods of Time, that made them think of SAPTHAMI denoting the number SEVEN as representing THE SEVEN HORSES RUNNING THE CHARIOT OF THE SUN GOD; and also symbolizing V I B G I O R, the seven colors we are familiar and constituting the WHITE LIGHT. Therefore, it is no wonder that the Indians in general and the Hindus in particular observe the day as holistic and offering prayers.
The above described recognition is of VEDIC TIMES, the Rishis awareness marking the day and its importance, preaching and propagating the observance of the day by taking Holy Bath, doing Pooja, offering prayers, and seeking mercy for the continuity of Life. It is such objectives that made them build Holistic Temples to the Divine Deities of SUN, at places like Arsavilli in Andhra Pradesh, Konark in Orissa State, etc were built, with such a precision that the SUN LIGHT on this particular day falls on the status of such temples and receding from the head downward to the feet before disappearing. The beauty of this phenomenon and the intelligence of the Rishis and the Builders of the times is difficult to gauge, for the reason that the rays falling on the deities coinciding with the RATHA SAPTHAMI Day, whether it is late Jan or early Feb. Another characteristic feature is the day’s observation by the Indians is the carrying of the traditions and continuity wherever they are, be it India or outside.
This text is neither thought of, nor pre-planed. Took shape while being somewhat with a feeling of being not well physically. Yet, guided by AMMAVARI’S initiative and instigating the observation of the environs outside through one of the windows; clearly suggesting the day and importance, and not to forget it the Birthday of the visible god SURYA (SUN).
These provocative thoughts made the beginning, typing the following thoughts, that finally took shape for the blog. Written partly in the early hours, followed by the days Salutations, and completing thereafter in the afternoon.
The darkness is replaced by the twilight. The twilight is replaced by the beautifully welcoming orange spread of the awakening Sun. Very soon the sky passes from the intense orange to shades of pale orange, alongside a few clouds with a maze of gray coloration. Then followed the popping Sun shining and calling I am here to brighten yourself and your day to move on, and reminding I am doing my part, it is time for you to be ready for your day being productive and useful, in keeping with Nature.
The awakening day is inviting. The plants around are appealing, saying we miss you. Buck up. Pay attention. Pluck our flowers. Pay your respects to your Deities. Decor them, so that others pay their due respects. After all, you are what HE / SHE makes you do what you do, and reminding what you are, and clearly indicating WE know you better, than yourself; standing as the REAL TRUTH OF LIFE. May this don every life.
