THE SCRIPT
GONE ARE THE DAYS OF SCRIPTING, using Sharp Tools to etch and write on Palm Leaves, Quill Writing of the ages past, gone are the days of scripting fondly with the Ink Pen Nibs dipping in ink Bottles, gone are the Ink filled Fountain Pens. Gone are the days of writing with Pencils even. The format of writing required Nib, and initially were of steel, and later of stainless steel, and subsequently made of silver, and based on affordability even gold.
The Ball Pens with replacement of infilling aids practically replacing in a dominant manner, coming to common usage, in various forms, sizes, colors and color scripts. Then came the use and throw off Ball Pens. Next came in the same format, very soon giving rise to 2 in one’s, 3 in ones and so on. Then came the range of Marker Pens in a range of colors, you name it, you have it. Cost almost appeared insignificant, as long as it served the needs of the hour. No doubt what so ever as long as the objectives of scripting are met. In recent years, some brands of Ink Pens with replacement or refilling cartridge types are being marketed in America ( going by the brand name OSPREY, and the person who introduced being known to me). I have come across another brand going by the name Rangapens specializing in the use of bamboo.
I can recollect the prestigious Parker, Pilot, Swan, Watermen’s and Shaffer Pens of my youth times. I also remember my childhood days visiting an Ink Pen Small Industry in TENALI, my native place, manufacturing the Ratnam name brand Pens, quite popular, those days.
The pleasure in penning with your own hands, the happiness you derive, and the satisfaction attained, the improvement in the hand writing are also bygones, and the present generations may not comprehend.
Well, gone are the bygones and many of the brands and modes of scripting. Gone, as well, the days of First written draft, Second draft, and the Final Manuscript, and the Typing on a manual, or Electronic Typewriter. For the readers info, in my days of Research Activities as a Scientist, I have gone through such practices in India, as well as abroad. In fact, of the nearly 150 published scientific papers, half of them, I had to resort to typing myself; an unthinkable even for myself, and yet enjoyed, because the objectives was to cover the ground and publish in leading journals.
We have come to the Computer Age, Typing the Script, using the Stylus for affixing our Signatures, if and wherever necessary are the present day options left. One can use the Laptop, the Surface, Desktop, the Minis, the Smartphones, and so on to Script your thoughts and ideas, make your own notes, daily logs, insert photos and quotes, graphical presentations, drawings with a whole lot of options, not available earlier. And with the onset of AI the options multiplied with spoon feeding information, wanted, the unwanted that could perhaps be Noisiness of A I.
Presently, AI assistance is going leaps and bounds to such an extent, with both positivity and negativity. But unfortunately, negativity appears to be overtaking; as for example in defense diversifications; whilst the younger generations getting used to AI dependency for doing Homework, or even obtaining answers in examinations, hoodwinking the examiners, a retrograde aspect affecting the honest and benefiting the dishonest, leaving the question where it is heading.
The lesson learnt is move with the times, accepting the aids and the technology coming with such tools, as otherwise you lag behind and not moving with the times and the challenges therefrom. This is more so, the advancing tools changing the modes of communication, modes of presentation, modes of purchase, modes of selling, modes of utility services, modes of travel services, modes of taxation and taxation filings, modes of payment services, modes of government services, modes of shipping services et cetera, all keep abreast with time and technology.
Trusting the readers visualize the contents nostalgically, offer good wishes.
