“SARVEJANA SUKHINOBHAVANTU”
This is a conceptual saying, widely used by the young and old alike. It is of Vedic origin. It being a useful and powerful concept has stood for ages, and tested by changing times. No doubt, it is in practice in India, especially with the Hindus. It means, “Universally, All People be Happy”.
This concept visualizing the happiness of one and all signifies the Dharmic analogies. As for example, you can be prosperous and successful and be happy when your neighbors are also happy, the binding factor being sharing in times of need and crisis alike.
India as a country, and its people, and in particular the Hindu community o no I no bserve this practice, wherever they might be. This tradition is civilizational earning a good name, both for the country and its citizens.
This analogy not only showed its powerful nature, exhibiting the applicability not only within India with its diversity of people, languages, dialects, territorial states, cultures, festivals, religions, social groups, food habits, and so on; but also the core of India, charecterically and clearly showing many commonalities binding east and west, north and south of the country unambiguously, projecting the country’s uniqueness, and as well the unity.
This uniqueness is supported for ages past by the ideals of the country’s Sanathan Dharma embedded in its roots and practiced even to this day knowingly or even unknowingly.
The said principles being helpful in keeping the people of BHARAT together, is envisioned as a powerful, practical and pragmatic way to achieve progress of India, but also worthy of extending such priceless principles by extending a helping hand to other people and countries. This emphasis is visible with the present government of Modiji, taking bold steps with positivity, and extending all possible help with a sharing attitude of give and take, desiring the advancement of the beneficiaries. It is not surprising that the principles were appealing for the South - South to adopt.
The applicability of these principles came to the fore with respect to the aid and assistance rendered by BHARAT in recent times when COVID affected globally, or when the neighboring countries were affected due to dreadful vagaries of Mother Nature; and even financially meeting with helping hands, with the expectancy of no other than good will and lasting friendship. In fact, the above saying has given rise to another saying that is equally, or more powerful being described.
It is the motivational principles of Bharat, and implied in its Cultural background that gave rise to the solemn propounded use of
“VASUDEVA KUTUMBAKAM”, meaning treat the counties and their people as ONE FAMILY OF GOD to ensure UNIVERSAL PEACE. The word VASUDEVA KUTUMBAKAM can perhaps be as well called ‘BAHU LOKA KUTUMAKAM’, meaning the consideration and treatment of the “PEOPLES OF ONE WORLD AS OF ONE FAMILY”, so that Amity, Understanding and Affinity prevails bonding the people Globally as ONE FAMILY, independent of color, cast, and shedding hegemonic mindset and putting at wrest the colonial activism for the creation of a harmonious society for the good of all people universally.
