“ADUSU THROKKANELA KAALU KADUGANELA”
(A SHORT STORY)
The above is a proverbial Telugu Language saying. It means “why put one’s leg in slushy mud, and then repent to wash the leg”. It has a lot of implicit meaning.
In the present day world, the people world over are indulging in quick money. They also are using the credit cards freely for day to requirements of food, groceries, clothing and so on. Students are borrowing for livelihood from credit cards. What they think has to be met. Savings to meet requirements are practically forgotten. Using the Credit Card is become the normal and without any hesitation even for the purchase of costlier goods. EMI payments have become so very common, knowing that the interest rates are very high. This habit is leaving many people to repent, because as they are not able to repay in time and getting into issues of inability to repay or even the interest part. This is an example akin to the quoted proverbial saying, fully aware of the trap or attraction of the credit card card loan and its consequences, and yet judging its use.
Another example is that of hard earned funds being used in the purchase of STOCkS as a means to invest, hoping to gain quick returns, fully aware of the fact the value could go up, or down, and can even crash. They are also aware that banks and credit unions give steady returns from the interest on investment, although it is low. Stocks purchase and selling has by and large become a dominant daily habit. With the result, much valuable time goes to this indulgence; encountering mood swings controlled by the ups and downs of the Stock Market.
It is unfortunate, the greed for quick money is become a disturbing factor, captivating people and leading them to uncertain ways, such as the above; and in the process energy and time are lost apart from losing the invested funds to the extent of imbalance of individuals.
People falling a pray for quick returns and quick money become desperate and invest in stocks and get marooned in stocks, facing losses and no certainty of gains, or recovery of the value of the invested money in such stocks.
Observant of traders palming off stocks inducing high returns; and the market fluctuations creating a flux traps the investors, and whose values swing up and down, reminded me of the quoted proverb, inducing me to write to caution.
The examples cited hopefully educate those players of stocks to be more cautious and careful in deciding in favor of the use of the credit card and investment in stocks; and not to get agitated and repent for indulging in such means; since peace of mind cannot be gained, leave alone money. For the believers of god,
HE / SHE can only save them. These methods offering faster bearish returns are only a GAMBLE. Hopefully, the proverbial truth implied in the Title is taken in the right perspective of generalization, and is not with anyone in view.
SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE is probably the nearest English Proverb, although the blog began with the Telugu saying. ALWAYS STAY SAFE OF FUNDS, since the cited examples are a form of gambling, like Horse Races, Car Races, Lottery Games and Lottery’s, Gambling Centers, etc.
MAY GOD SAVE THE GAMBLERS. It’s easy to spend. But difficult to earn.
