 POKHARAN


IT is the place, where BHARAT conducts the nuclear tests.

This place propped up in the news as the Western world appears to be thinking in terms of initiating nuclear testing after a long gap.


I was reminded about my association with the POKHARAN test site. While in service, was requested to study the geological samples of the place. I did not visit the site of investigation. Telephonically was contacted and informed that the studies are of classified nature and cannot be published. Info on the type of samples was taken, after a discussion.


Accordingly, samples of the strata rocks with depth were sent for laboratory testing in a manner that would be appropriate.  Studied the Physical and Elastic properties of the core  samples at the Rock Mechanics Lab that I had the opportunity to develop.. Being classified in nature, no written records are made available at the institution I did the R & D, nor are they with me. This is  a story that is about four decades old. At my suggestion, the samples were studied twice, once prior to the tests, and again after the tests. Suffice it to say the results varied.


This note is prepared for myself, since the news of possible nuclear tests propped up in the media, and making me recollect what little I gathered scientifically and contributed to the site of investigation. 


As a peace lover, I feel, the Community of Nations should deter the development of more nuclear devices harmful to humanity and the world at large, and the negative Environmental impact Globally. The impact of Global Warming that is already being faced with its severity cannot be overlooked, and the proposed tests could only enhance the severity further with more and more world wide nuclear tests, be it for research, defense studies, or even impact evaluations.

  HINDU WORSHIP AND WISDOM   Hinduism engulfs ‘Hindu worship’, as one of the several Hindu practices.
