A TRUE SHORT CHRISTMAS STORY
Almighty blessed me with four grandchildren, two of whom are due to the only daughter, now adults with their own livelihood, and the other two are the only son's attending school. All four are girls. The youngest is about ten years old.
CHRISTMAS is round the corner. Naturally, everyone thinks of celebrations and gifts, for the friends and the near dear to share the joys with them. Children especially plan the events for the celebrations decorating with illuminations, purchasing ornamental gear, dresses and so on.
The youngest grandchild, who is in her fifth standard at school appeared to be too busy with her own activities and on her own. Got inquisitive and started observing her and her interests. To my surprise noticed her deep interest in creativity and artistic manipulations in paperwork, beadworks, and embroidery. These activities gave me confidence on her interests, and felt she needs to be encouraged to develop her talents.
Calling her and complimenting her activities made a passing reference suggesting that she better organize her worktable, books and stationery, so that she has ready access to pick her requirements without wasting time, especially in the mornings in a rush for the school. At the weekend she impressed with the orderly upkeep of the worktable and the bookshelf and called me to show. Feeling happy suggested she better keep the clothing also by sorting and piling in the wardrobe. I was floored when she eagerly said grandpa I already did.
The following day, I decided to further encourage her by offering a Dollar bill. Ready came the answer, what for, and I said to encourage and especially as it is Xmas time. She promptly refused and said I don't need it. Then I said, it is okay and will give a higher reward of $10. This time also she was not tempted to take and was taken aback. Take it, I will give your sister also the same amount and both of can purchase your likes for the festival.
I insisted on taking the money for use. Pat came the reply, Grandpa you are there and with us, more valuable with your company and helping us and appreciating and encouraging whatever we do and guiding us. The hope and confidence we gain with the very presence of you and Grandma is more valuable.
I felt holistic. Thanked Almighty for blessing me and my wife with such a mature and able grandchild, clearly increasing our faith, and proving "blood is thicker than water", and the bonds of affection. friendship and love" are invaluable and no match to the Dollar, and what more do the Grand old seek.
